Background Document
THE STATES AND A
REPUBLIC
This paper is written
to provide background information for delegates to the Queensland Constitutional
Convention. The themes of the Convention are, firstly, the issues raised
for State Constitutions by the pending Commonwealth referendum on a republic
and, secondly, the position of State Governors. To assist consideration
of these matters by delegates, this paper is divided into the following
three parts:
